Mulan is a young Chinese woman
who dresses as a soldier to replace her father in the war. Throughout the film,
she is criticized for behaving differently from the stereotype of a woman of
the time, to the point of considering her incapable of having children because
she is very thin.
What I liked most about Mulan
when I first saw her with my sisters was that she was not the typical female
character of the animated films of that time. She was not a princess and did
not need to be rescued, on the contrary, she was in charge of fighting the bad
guys.
But although the protagonist
breaks with sexist stereotypes, the film exposes examples constantly. In one of
the songs ( A Girl Worth Fighting For ) the secondary characters, friends of Mulan, describe how their ideal
girl should be: good cook, beautiful, affectionate, etc. For that reason I have
considered that the film is an attempt to break with the typical but even
includes sexisms.
ResponderBorrarIt was my favorite movie as a child and it still is!
Mulan is the best: a strong and rebellious woman! She didn't let sexist impositions leave her trapped at home.
